Compassionate, Expert Surgical Care
Erik G. Lough, MD, FACS
Helping patients live their lives to the fullest.
Dr. Lough excels both in his surgical expertise and his ability to connect with his patients compassionately. Patients come from all backgrounds, but the one unifying factor is that they are all looking for guidance, someone ready to help them restore their health. Dr. Lough honors the trust that patients put in him, and ultimately, his goal is to ensure life-changing transformations for his patients so that they can live their lives to the fullest.
Dr. Lough prioritizes being excellent in character, compassion for patients, surgical knowledge and operative skills, and patient accessibility. From calming a patient’s worries to granting them a new lease on life, Dr. Lough believes he must take care of his patients because he cares about them and their outcomes. This is essential because great surgeons should have compassion for their patients’ well-being. Dr. Lough is earnest about recommending the best possible choice to his patients, even if that means recommending that they don’t need surgery.
Open communication with the surgeon and patient is paramount. Dr. Lough communicates with patients to discuss their condition, the surgical plan, questions about the preparation leading up to surgery, and recovery following surgery.
Dr. Lough has experience in a broad range of state-of-the-art minimally invasive surgeries, including advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery, robotic hernia surgery, GERD treatment/acid reflux surgery including LINX and hiatal hernia repair, bariatric surgery including gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, duodenal switch, gastric band maintenance or removal, bariatric revision surgery, and colon/abdominal/intestine surgery.
Dr. Lough loves spending his free time with his wife and five children, mountain biking, and listening to live music in Austin.
“What is best for the patient comes first, and I make healthcare decisions for my patient as if they are a member of my family – this is my core belief, and I practice it every day.
When seeing a patient, I talk with them earnestly, explaining in clear terms their problem, how I will perform the surgery, and what expectations they should have for recovery.”
