Patient Testimonial
Meet Chris
Describe your life before you had Weight Loss Surgery.
I had high blood pressure, asthma, lower back pain… Walking very far was a chore. Couldn’t find clothing off the rack that t. My weight wasn’t causing my heath issues, but it was exacerbating them, and it made getting a clear diagnosis di cult. Life had gotten kind of small because I just didn’t have the energy to do much.
How long were you considering Weight Loss Surgery before you came in? If you put off the decision, why did you wait? What eventually made you decide to “go for it”?
About a year. I worked with a nutritionist and a trainer for a year and couldn’t lose weight – even when I worked out every day and only ate about 1400 calories. No matter what I did the weight wouldn’t come off.
My nutritionist suggested gastric sleeve surgery, and at first I completely balked. But after about a year of continuing to tryt and continuing to get no results I finally reached out to a friend who had gastric bypass surgery a few years ago and he convinced me to come in for an evaluation. Best thing I ever did for myself.
What was it like to work with the team, from the start of your journey to today?
The team was great. Dr. Fass was good at talking me through what to expect and the classes with Jerry were good as well.
Describe your life now, after Weight Loss Surgery. What is the #1 thing you love being able to do now (that you could not do before)?
What can I say… It took a while to learn that my new body (110 lbs lighter) could DO all the things that were just too hard before the weight loss. I don’t get tired walking from the parking lot to the store… I actually enjoy riding my bike and swimming. My clothes actually fit. Plus, everything that I was afraid about before the surgery turned out to be a non-issue. I’m still almost never hungry. When I eat, I can only eat a small amount, and I only WANT a small amount. I don’t feel deprived. I have found other ways to comfort myself that don’t have the negative consequences that food (and other substances) bring with them. I feel free and excited about getting older… I was 58 when I had the surgery. I feel better at 60 than I have for a decade, and being 70 doesn’t scare me because I’m pretty sure I won’t be stuck in a wheelchair because of my weight (if I even loved that long).
